I started my first diet when I was a size 12. Nothing serious, just cutting down my chocolate and alcohol intake. Around the same time, I gave up smoking. Within a year I'd managed to diet my way to a size 18! I couldn't bear to look in the mirror so decided to join weightwatchers. I'd attend the weekly meetings and for a while things would go well. I received my key-ring for losing 10% of my bodyweight and things were looking good. Not too sure what happened, but I stopped attending the meetings and regained all the weight I'd lost plus a few extra pounds. I repeated this process over the next 10 years, joining various weight loss groups, losing weight, gaining weight, trying the latest fad diets and ending up where I am now: Eight stone overweight and a size 26.
I have two daughters that lead a very healthy lifestyle. They have challenged me to learn about the food I consume, the chemicals they contain, hidden sugar/salt, perceived healthy food that is anything but and the damage these foods can do. By doing this, I hope to break my addiction to processed food, become healthier and have more energy to enjoy a more active family life.
I'll be posting surprising facts about food, recipes I try and any weight loss that I achieve.
